Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some questions I've received from clients that could be helpful as you consider starting counseling with me.
I've never done counseling before. How does it start out?
The first session is focused on getting to know you, why you're going to counseling, and what your counseling goals are. It'll feel more formal, since I'll be asking questions to gather the necessary information for insurance purposes. But after that, we will begin the next session going into whatever you're ready to process. I often start the next session with "What would you like to focus on for today?"
Do you give homework?
Sometimes I give homework to clients, depending on the tools or psychoeducation introduced in session, in order to encourage transferring of skills and application of knowledge outside of session.
Are you available for in-person or telehealth appointments?
I offer in person and telehealth sessions. I meet with clients in-person at the Mindful Therapy Group Office in Tigard.
For telehealth sessions, clients must be physically located in the state of Oregon for the session to take place. Even if your address is in Oregon but are temporarily out of state on a trip, I cannot meet with you, as the the scope of my license is for practice in Oregon only.
What are the fees per session?
Sessions are $150 per 50 minutes. This is the rate for individuals and couples.
Do you take insurance?
Yes, I do take insurance. Currently, I accept Moda, Medicare, and United Healthcare. I am pending approval to accept other insurance plans, so check back or inquire on whether your insurance will be accepted.
How often do we meet?
Typically I meet with clients weekly or bi-weekly, depending on scheduling preferences and how severe your symptoms are.
What if I can't make a scheduled session?
If you are not able to attend the scheduled session, please give notice at least 24 hours in advance. If I am notified less than 24 hours from the scheduled appointment time, you are subject to paying the late cancellation fee, which is the full fee of the missed session. This is to respect our scheduled time as well as potential clients that could benefit from that time.
Can I talk about my religious beliefs?
You are welcome to share your religious beliefs as it pertains to your mental health. I am a Christian and was trained through Western Seminary’s counseling program, which integrates a Christian worldview with tools for clinical practice. That being said, out of care and respect, I will not impose my beliefs on my clients, and will provide spiritual counsel only when requested by them.
